Greetings;
Happy Father's Day to each and every father out there in Radio-Land.... I
sincerely hope you are blessed with a wonderful day.
Field Day, 2006 starts next weekend (June 24, 25). I hope that each and every
one reading this message will get a chance to come to this wonderful event.
There will be plenty of opportunities for everyone from the unlicensed (soon
to be hams) all the way to Extra's, to operate a radio during field day. If
your friends or neighbors have never had the excitement of operating a HF
radio on Voice or CW, bring them to Field Day. We will have stations
operating in just about all modes of operation, so bring everyone out.
Our Field Day this year is held at the Great Stone Mountain Park at the
Lakeside Pavilion. Come to the Park's East Gate entrance just off of Hwy 78.
Get in the left most lane. Tell the Gate Attendant you are going to the
Alford Memorial Radio Club Field Day Event, they should let you right in.
Turn Left about 200 ft from the Entrance onto StoneWall Jackson Drive.
Follow the drive until you come to the Commons Restaurant and the Golf Course
Club House. Turn Right and stay to the right. When you see the Beach area to
the right, that is where the Lakeside Pavilion is. Find a place to park and
come on in and have some fun.
Dinner will be served at around 6:00pm, Please bring a 12 pack of your
favorite sodas and something to go along with the Boston Butt BBQ and Corn on
the Cob. You might also want to bring along a folding chair and some sun
screen and maybe even a Box Fan as it does get warm on a June afternoon in
Georgia.
For you late night Field Day visitors and midnight Grits short-order chefs
( ae. Ed Honeycutt), you can get in and out of the East Gate 24 hours a day
for the event from Saturday Morning until Sunday Afternoon. (Don't let some
event like Jenny's wedding keep you from coming out for the fun, bring her
and the whole family along.)
Also note that the East gate traffic can sometimes backup especially late on
Saturday afternoons due to the Laser Show crowd, so leave home a little
early and bring you patience with you.
From Lakeside Pavilion you should be able to see part of the Laser Show and
the Fireworks so that should be an added bonus also.
4th of July 1.5k Race Parade at the City of Stone Mountain -----
Race workers need to be at the Marta Park and Ride no later than 6:45 am for
the breifing and assignment of race positions. Parade workers need to be at
the Marta Park and Ride no later than 8:00am to get some breakfast at Dr.
Colletti's then go to your assignments in the Staging area inside the Park
itself or along the parade route. Dr. Coletti has also stated that there
will be hotdogs for lunch at his house after the parade.
Come out and help celebrate our nation's birthday in the most wonderful way
possible, helping with the Stone Mountain parade.
I hope to see each and everyone of you at one of the events coming up.
