The club takes its name and its call sign from Richard “Dick”
Alford, W4BOC (1908–1968). The club was founded in 1972 and has held
his call ever since.
Our flagship repeater, 146.760, was the first 2-meter repeater in the
Atlanta area. It sits on top of Stone Mountain — the granite dome that
gives our newsletter its name, the TOTR, or Top Of The Rock.
Today the club also runs analog repeaters on 145.450 and 224.760 at the
Exchange Park site in East Atlanta, a Yaesu System Fusion machine on
444.250, and a Motorola DMR repeater on 441.8125 back on top of Stone
Mountain, connected to the worldwide Brandmeister network since 2025.
AMRC hosts Field Day on the fourth full weekend in June, and the
largest hamfest in Georgia — the Stone Mountain Hamfest — on Halloween
weekend, October 30–31, 2026, at the Lawrenceville fairgrounds.
